RIP HEATH LEDGER

so unless you all live underneath a rock, you know by now that Heath Ledger is dead.

I was travelling and got stuck in the airport for a full day, so I had no idea what was going on! When I heard it was madness.
It's so sad, I thought he was a really good actor, and a good father to poor lil Matilda :(

from ABC news:

He was found dead in his New York City apartment Tuesday; he was 28 years old. Preliminary autopsy results were inconclusive, and the medical examiners says more tests are needed. Police have confirmed the possibility that the death may have been caused by an overdose of prescription drugs.

Those close to him describe a man full of heart and potential. Todd Haynes, who directed Ledger in his last film, "I'm Not There," said, "Ledger had a bit of James Dean in him and now Ledger, like Dean, has died young … just as he was trying to find his place in the film industry."

Autopsy scheduled for today

His friends thoughts:
In Los Angeles, Russell Crowe said: "He was a gentle, beautiful man, a fine actor, a loyal friend. I feel deeply for his family."

Rachel McAdams posted on her MySpace page: "My heart goes out to Heath's family and friends during this time of great loss. I had the pleasure of meeting him a few years back and I can definitely say he had a wonderful career ahead of him. Undeniable talent and a loving new father. It's so tragic to see it all end so soon and sudden."

Cate Blanchett said, "I am shocked and very saddened by the news. I deeply respect Heath's work and always admired his continuing development as an artist. My thoughts are with his family and his close friends"

Helena Christensen said, "I am just beyond sad at this point and shocked. I was on my way over to pay him a visit when I found out. I had just left him a message and heard his voice on the machine. He was such a special and genuine person, so extraordinarily talented because he was so raw and honest with his feelings."

His family's statement:
Heath's family confirms the very tragic, untimely and accidental passing of our dearly loved son, brother and doting father of Matilda. He was found peacefully asleep in his New York apartment by his housekeeper at 3:30 p.m. U.S. time.
We would like to thank our friends and everyone around the world for their well wishes and kind thoughts at this time. Heath has touched so many people on so many different levels during his short life but few had the pleasure of truly knowing him.
He was a down to earth, generous, kind-hearted, life-loving and selfless individual who was extremely inspirational to many. Please now respect our families need to grieve and come to terms with our loss privately.

Michelle Williams' father also spoke out saying "I think Tennyson got it right in the poem when he described someone as having died at a young age but burning the candles at both ends, and oh what a beautiful flame he made, that was Heath, what a beautiful flame he made and a great talent... The saddest thing is his daughter whom he just loved dearly."

His publicist Mara Buxbaum said, "We are deeply saddened and shocked by this accident."
E! Online reports that Naomi Watts canceled all her Sundance appearances. She is in town to promote her movie Funny Games.

Todd Haynes, the director of I'm Not There said, "Heath was a true artist, a deeply sensitive man, an explorer, gifted and wise beyond his years. There is no finer person on this earth.”

James Schamus, CEO of Focus Features and a producer on Brokeback Mountain said, "Heath Ledger was a courageous actor, and a great soul... He gave us the gift of sharing his fearless and beautiful love—of his craft, and of all who worked with him—for which all of us will be eternally grateful."
